Moreover, such a special liqueur naturally deserves a fitting label. And just as the name of the bottler Van Kleef bubbled up from the depths of the Hofvijver, so did the name of the artist who was to paint the label: Titus Meeuws.

The Taste Experience – The Unique Blend of Flavours
Coffee liqueur with a hint of old Dutch Gin
The Binnenhof is surrounded by wonderful, historical stories, so it is not surprising that the idea for a liqueur that fits the tradition and history of the city was born on the banks of the Hofvijver.
Titus Meeuws walked musingly along the Lange Vijverberg. The afternoon sun touching gently on the buildings of the Binnenhof and the ripples of the dark brown water of the lake. The statue of Haagse Jantje pointing cheekily to the other side. ‘What if we could capture the feelings we are now experiencing in a bottle? What would it look like? And what would it taste like?’ Dark brown, just like the colour of the water, like the famous Haags hopje? a coffee liqueur with a hint of old Jenever.
The label – an aquarel by Titus Meeuws

Titus Meeuws
Meeuws, who has been working in The Hague for more than twenty years, painted a series of watercolours entitled ‘Binnenhof in Beeld’. [Courtyard in View] He is very familiar with the area of the Binnenhof – with its intimate, stately atmosphere and the typical Hague light – a light like no other. For the label, Meeuws immortalised Het Torentje [The Tower] in watercolour, where the morning sun treats the Prime Minister to the timeless, beautiful view over the Hofvijver.
The History of Haags Hofwater – A Tale of Craftsmanship
One of the most iconic places in The Hague is the Hofvijver, a picturesque lake that borders the Binnenhof, the Dutch Houses of Parliament. As one wanders along the Hofvijver from the Lange Vijverberg and squints to take in the surroundings it is easy to travel centuries back in time, for example, to the 19th century when The Hague was a bustling city full of culture, international politics and trade.
Bottled history
Part of the rich history of the royal city is the famous distillery Van Kleef, founded in 1842. A name that is synonymous with traditional Hague liqueurs and Jenevers. It was the obvious choice to invite them to distill our liqueur. Such a special liqueur naturally deserves a suitable label. Just as the name Van Kleef bubbled up from the bottom of the Hofvijver, so did the name of the artist who just had to paint the label: Titus Meeuws.
